Michael Carbajal vs. Jose DeJesus
Although I will not see this fight, and will only read about it . . . I'll still
give my not so humble opinion on this one. First, I thought Carbajal retired? Well, after
getting his head softned and getting TKO'd in the 9th round by Jake Matlala and
subsequently losing his IBA Light Flyweight Title, I thought he said he was done. Well, I
guess getting in a ring with a guy who's been stopped in his last 3 bouts will in a way
justfy his boxing ability. Don't get me wrong, I like Carbajal. Mikey was an 88 silver
medalist and 3 time world champion. His unforgettable bouts with Chiquita Gonzalez and his
remarkable win over Scotty Olson in 97 were great fights! Hey, it's a money thing, I'd
probably still fight too . . . even tomato cans =)

Cesar Bazan vs. Stevie Johnston
This should prove to be an interesting fight. This is a rematch in which Johnston lost his
title to Bazan, and could be Stevie's chance to avenge his only loss. Their last
fight was a split decision, that in my eyes, Stevie won. Since that fight (13Jun98), Steve
has went on to stop Demetrio Ceballos in 6 rounds last Nov (it took Shane Mosely 8) and
Bazan has defended the title once by scoring a majority decision against Mauro Lucero last
Oct. Bazan is big for a lightweight, also. He's 6 foot with a 78" reach!
Johnson stands 5' 41/2". Making that 135 lb limit has got to be tough for Bazan!! If
Bazan can stay on the outside and jab, Stevie may have a tough time. I suspect Stevie will
be hungry, and will take the fight right to Bazan. Stevie by no means is a big KO artisit,
but he's an active boxer with high punch output and accuracy.

Reggie Johnson vs. Will Taylor
This is going to be a surprising fight. Athough it's the undercard fight, I believe it
will be the best fight of the night. I don't know why, but I sense a upset in the making.
I'm going to go out on a limb here. Albeit Johnson is the IBF Light Heavyweight Champ, and
was very impressive in his 5th round stoppage of William Guthrie, I don't know why . . .
. I just have a gut feeling that Will Taylor will go out and catch Reggie leaning
in. I don't know why, I just see it happening. Johnson still looks to me like a blown up
middleweight that got a lucky break against Gutherie. Taylor carries his weight more
naturally, and is a very effective power puncher. He has never seen the caliber fighter as
that of Johnson, but I'm confident he will rise to the occasion and make the whole boxing
community do a major double take when he stops Johnson in an astounding early round
stoppage . .
